Paying for College after a Divorce

By: Raymond D. Loewe

College planning after divorce: The financial data of the parent with whom the child lives more than 50% of the time must be entered on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.

If that parent has remarried, the stepparent?s financial information must be provided as well.

If parents share custody 50-50, the parent providing the most financial support should complete the FAFSA form?even if he/she is not the one who takes the child as a tax deduction.
